Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
This policy explains what Parksmart Ltd collects when you use the ParkSmart mobile app
or visit parksmart.mu, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It is written
to match the privacy details published on our App Store and Google Play listings.
Parksmart Ltd is the data controller.

In short
- We collect your name, email, location and how you use the app.
- Your location helps us find you parking, and it is one input into which
advertisement you see. - We do not sell your data, share it with data brokers, or track you across other
apps and websites. - You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, immediately.
What the mobile app collects
All of the following is linked to your account.
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name and email address.
The app has no password login, so we never receive or store a password. If you use
Sign in with Apple with “Hide My Email”, we only ever see the relay address Apple
generates for us.
We assign your account a user ID. It is what keeps your saved places, parking
history and preferences attached to you.
Location
The app collects your precise location (GPS latitude and longitude) while it is
open. We use it to:
- show car parks near you and how far away they are,
- calculate a route and give turn-by-turn guidance,
- remember where you parked so we can walk you back to your car,
- choose which advertisement is relevant to where you are.
We will be plain about that last point. Your location is one of the inputs we use to
select an advertisement. We send an approximate position, rounded to roughly 110
metres, to our own advertising service. We never send your location to an advertiser
or to an advertising network.
We only collect location while the app is open. There is no background tracking. You
can refuse the location permission and continue to use ParkSmart, without distances,
routing or find-my-car.
Notifications
If you enable notifications we store a push token for your device together with
your language preference. We use it for parking session reminders and, only if you
switch on “Offers and news”, occasional messages about new car parks and features.
You can turn that off at any time in your profile, or disable notifications entirely
in your device settings.
Usage and advertising
We record how you interact with the app and which advertisements you have seen
or tapped, along with your user ID. We use this to bill advertisers accurately, to
avoid showing you the same advertisement repeatedly, and to understand which parts of
the app people actually use.
Diagnostics
When the app crashes or runs slowly we collect crash and performance reports:
device model, operating system version, app version and a stack trace. These reports
are not linked to your account. We do not attach your name, email or user ID to them.
What stays on your device
Two things never reach us:
- Motion sensor readings. The app reads your accelerometer to detect that you have
parked and walked away from your car. That processing happens entirely on your
device and the readings are never transmitted or stored. - Car park searches. Searching inside the app runs on your device against the list
already downloaded. Your search terms never reach our servers.
What the website collects
parksmart.mu collects standard server log data, including IP address, browser type and
the pages you visit, which we use to keep the site running and to understand traffic.
The site uses cookies for session handling and traffic measurement. You can block or
delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will continue to work.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not share your data with data brokers.
- We do not combine your data with data about you obtained from other companies.
- We do not use third-party advertising networks or tracking pixels in the mobile app.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites. This is why ParkSmart does not
ask for App Tracking Transparency permission on iOS.
Advertising
Advertisements shown in the app are sold and served by Parksmart Ltd from our own
systems. Advertisers are businesses with premises or offers near the car parks we
cover.
Advertisers receive aggregate performance figures only: how many times an
advertisement was shown and how many people tapped it. They never receive your
identity, your email, your location, or any other personal data.
Who else is involved
| Party | Role | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, Apple Maps on iOS, push delivery | Your Apple ID identifier, map requests, notification payloads |
| Google Sign-In, Google Maps on Android | Your Google account identifier | |
| Advertisers | Businesses advertising in the app | Aggregate performance figures only |
Our crash and performance monitoring runs on servers we operate ourselves. No
third-party analytics company receives your data.
Legal basis
We process personal data under the Data Protection Act 2017 (Mauritius) and, where it
applies, the General Data Protection Regulation:
- Performance of a contract: account information and location, to provide the
service you asked for. - Legitimate interests: diagnostics, security, and measuring advertising
performance so that we can bill advertisers. - Consent: notifications, and marketing messages. You may withdraw either at any
time without affecting the rest of the service.
How long we keep it
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account information | Until you delete your account |
| Advertising and usage events | 24 months |
| Crash and performance reports | 90 days |
| Push tokens | Until you disable notifications or delete your account |
Deleting your account
Open the app, go to your profile, and tap Delete my account. This permanently
removes your account, your saved places and your parking history. It takes effect
immediately and cannot be undone.
If you would rather we did it for you, write to [email protected].
Your rights
You may ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you,
- correct anything that is wrong,
- delete your data,
- restrict how we use it,
- object to processing we base on legitimate interests,
- receive your data in a portable format.
Write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Data Protection
Office of Mauritius, or to your local supervisory authority if you are in the EU or
the UK.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls limiting who inside
Parksmart Ltd can reach it, and regular review of our systems. No system is perfectly
secure, but we treat your data as if it were our own.
International transfers
Our servers are located in Mauritius. Some of the parties listed above, including Apple and Google, process data outside Mauritius. Where personal data leaves Mauritius or the EU we rely on the safeguards those providers offer, including standard
contractual clauses.
Breach notification
If a breach affects your personal data and is likely to result in a risk to your
rights, we will notify the Data Protection Office within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, and we will notify you directly where the risk is high.
Children
ParkSmart is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone
under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we
will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and the date at the top,
and we will update our App Store and Google Play privacy details in the same release.
